YEAR: 1982

Peaked at number-seven on Billboard‘s Top (Rock) Tracks chart and number-11 on the Hot 100.

It’s Raining Again,” the first and biggest single from the 1982 Supertramp album¬†Famous Last Words…, was written by Roger Hodgson. Keyboardist Rick Davies recalls one particular performance of the song in Paris. Supertramp singer-keyboardist Rick Davies shares a memory of performing “It’s Raining Again” one night in Paris. “It was the biggest crowd we’d ever played to, and it poured with rain. And when we got to that song, ‘It’s Raining Again,’ we had 90 thousand umbrellas all going like this with the song. It was the most ridiculous sight you ever saw in your life, all these drenched French people with umbrellas all going up and down. And of course you’ve got the nursery rhyme at the end for real with the kids singing, ‘It’s raining, it’s pouring.’ That’s as bubble gum as we’ve ever come, I think.”

Supertramp keyboardist and singer Rick Davies celebrates his 72nd birthday today (July 22nd).
