Receiver Josh Gordon reported to the Browns Tuesday, a day after being reinstated by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, but he won’t be on the field for a few weeks.

Gordon sustained a quadriceps injury while working out on his own this summer and will start camp on the active/non-football injury list. Offensive lineman Conor Boffeli has also been placed on the active/NFI list while cornerback Joe Haden and tight end Seth DeValve will start camp on the active/physically unable to perform list.

Haden is still recovering from ankle surgery in March and remains on track while DeValve has been sidelined since May.

After reporting for camp Tuesday, Gordon took a physical and met with executive vice president of football operations Sashi Brown, head coach Hue Jackson as well as other members of the organization. In those meetings expectations for Gordon, on as well as off the field, moving forward were laid out.

Gordon was conditionally reinstated Monday by Goodell but will serve a 4-game suspension to start the season. He is eligible to participate in training camp and the preseason once healthy. During his suspension he will be permitted to participate in team meetings, however he will not be allowed to practice or attend games.

Gordon led the NFL in receiving yardage with 1,646 yards in 2013 despite playing in 14 games and he has totaled 161 catches for 2,754 yards and 14 touchdowns in 35 career games. He has been suspended for a total of 33 games including the latest ban – 32 for substance abuse violations and 1 during the final week of the 2014 campaign for violating team rules – since the Browns tendered a second round pick in the 2012 supplemental draft for him.

Players on active PUP or NFI can’t take part in on-field activities until they pass their physical and are limited to strength and conditioning, rehab and meetings.

Rookies, veterans recovering from injury and quarterbacks reported Monday for training camp. Veterans report Thursday and will take physicals as well as the conditioning test. The first practice of training camp is Friday afternoon.
