Cleveland Browns defensive end Armonty Bryant pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of attempted drug possession in Cuyahoga County Court Wednesday.

Bryant was originally charged with 2 felony counts of drug possession in an indictment that was handed down in February stemming from a traffic stop in the early hours of Dec. 25, 2015.

Judge Brian J. Corrigan sentenced Bryant to 68 days probation, expiring Oct. 3, as well as a $1,000 fine. A 180 day jail sentence was suspended according to court documents.

Bryant was suspended by the NFL in March for the first 4 games of the 2016 season for violating the league’s policies on performance enhancing substances. The suspension was a result of a failed drug test and not because of the arrest on Christmas morning. The Browns suspended Bryant for the last 2 games of the 2015 season following the arrest and he could face additional discipline from the league following the guilty plea.

Bryant was riding in a car driven by former Browns defensive back De’Ante Saunders, who pleaded not guilty to a felony count of improperly handling firearms in a motor vehicle, when the 2 were pulled over by Ohio Highway Patrol for speeding on I-71. A search of the vehicle by officers revealed 2 Adderall pills in Bryant’s possession and and .40-caliber Glock handgun were discovered by officers.

Saunders, who was released by the Browns shortly after the traffic stop, is due in court on Aug. 1.

Bryant had 40 tackles, 5.5 sacks, and 2 forced fumbles in 14 games last season.

In October 2012 Bryant received probation until Oct. 2017 after he pleaded no contest following an arrest for selling marijuana at East Central University. He also received a one-year deferred sentence after he pleaded no contest to a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol in May 2013 – a week after the Browns drafted him.
