Cream: “Crossroads”

ALBUM: Wheels of Fire

YEAR: 1968

WRITER: Robert Johnson

Peaked at number-28 on the Billboard Hot 100.

The late Cream singer-bassist Jack Bruce gave full credit to the trio’s guitarist, Eric Clapton, for their version of blues great Robert Johnson’s song “Crossroads.” “That was his idea. He loved Robert Johnson, he introduced me to Robert Johnson. And we did this version of ‘Crossroads’ which has become the one people listen to. It’s quite strange. I don’t think very many people listen to the original Robert Johnson one now.”

On this day (October 24th) in 2005, Cream played the first of its three reunion shows at Madison Square Garden in New York.
